ASTRO SYSTEMS 9000 HEAD

Post by Einstein »

Is there a difference between a Astro systems 9000 control head and a non-astro systems 9000 control head, electrically or pinout connections, for use with a XTL 5000 radio. Cannot find my schematics right at the monment.

Thanks

The difference is in the firmware. Some newer analog heads can have the EEPROM replaced for Astro operation, I don't know if an astro spectra control head will work on an XTL though.

I have tried several non-astro system 9000 heads and none work on a XTL5000. I tried several astro system 9000 heads and all work fine. They must not be interchangeable

A new SMD type head (1073 type) can be converted to work with the astro spectra/xtl5000 by changing out the firmware chip in the control head. The older heads that have DIP chips can't be switched. This has been convered several times.

This only applies to the A9/W9.

This topic may have been covered several times, but I thought posting questions was what the board was all about, maybe I was mistaken. Yes you can do a search, but when the specific information you are looking for is not found you ask questions.
