Codeplug to new question

Post by nvradtec »

Hi all

after playing with moto's for a lot o years now, something hit me the other day about the software, when one get the "codeplug to new" message with the mcs, mtsx, and others.

I've compared the "newer" software but really see no differences

question is , what is the software looking at when it gives the "codeplug to new" message? and is there a hex edit or workaround.

I really don't want to dish out another $400 or so for a new copy of the MCS

just thinking out loud again

When you initiate a read with a radio it send its model number, serial number and software version.
If it is greater than the CPS it gives the error

A Simple Answer for you

If a radio has been programed with a more recent version of RSS or CPS it will display this error and will not allow the radio to be read or programmed to with the older software version. Simply another Motorola control over programing.

I came upon this on several radios and we had to get new software. Simple solution is to get the new software. I can attest that while I was not happy with having to get new software, once I got it I really love the new CPS. It really is much easier to work with than the old DOS based RSS and I have really been happy with it.

Any radio that was programmed with say, R05.00.01 and then programmed with a later version like R05.06 can be done and you will not see this 'error', as the version last used was 'newer' than the version the radio was programmed with.

But if your RSS is older than the version the radio was programmed with, the error will pop up and tell you the codeplug is too new for this application, so you will have to get at least, that version in order to program the radio.

In short, you can't use R06.04 to program a radio that was programmed with R06.07.

But I also hear that once it's programmed with the latest version of CPS, you can not go back to RSS.

I can't speak any more about this as I don't have CPS to try this with.
