Upgrading ASTRO Saber II to III

Post by mr.syntrx »

Hi

If I were to buy an ASTRO Digital Saber II, and give it a full keypad, what parts would be required? Just a new housing?

Also, would I need to dump an AS3 codeplug in to make the keypad work?

Cheers

Often the keypad is under there. You could probably get by with the housing and new codeplug.

If you have a model 2 radio to begin with, then all of the buttons are there. Only time I've seen otherwise is in some model 1s, where the pushbutton contact overlay was omitted.

You'll need a model 3 codeplug to do stuff like hot DTMF dialing and keypad access of zones and channels. DTMF from memory might be possible in a model 2.. dunno, never had my hands on one.

ASII to ASIII upgrade.

I have never seen a ASII with less than a full keypad underneath the housing. I don;t think they were ever made any other way. Correct me if I am wrong. Many of the ASII's out there already have a ASIII codeplug in them.

Is this a radio you have gotten? If so what is the host/dsp and flashcode. It may be possible just to add the model 3 info to the radio rather than zapping it with an s-rec from a diff. radio.

No, I was just wondering what was involved, in case I go pick up an AS2.
