XTS 3000 DTMF Keypad

Post by tnf »

I just purchased a XTS3000 with a keypad and display, and i was wondering what exactly I will be able to do with this keypad? I have read numerous articles about DTMF but still dont understand it.

I guess my question is what am I capable of doing (regardless of other equipment) with this radio.

Example: Can it encode and decode tones, call telephone numbers, or what exactly am I looking at being able to do?

Thanks for not flaming!!!! -nick

It can generate DTMF tones, to be transmitted over the air for phone patches etc.

It can also be used to directly select channel numbers, e.g. if you want a particular channel that you know is in position 19 of your current zone, you press CHAN-1-9-Home, rather than scrolling through with the arrows.

Trunked paging, and (I think) MDC1200. No tones.
