help with mtx8000

Post by Macgyver »

Looking for some info and help here with an mtx8000.
I have read here about guys changing out 800mhz. rf boards and swapping controllers out.
I have an 800mhz mtx 8000 H01UCH9BB7AN radio and swapped out the rf board to an ht1000 vhf model.
The mtx8000 controller had no flashware options installed but the flash chip is installed.
My question is what would happen if I was to take a mts2000 codeplug with software option h35 and try to force it onto the controller. Will the flash software be transfered and working??? Which would be a better codeplug for conv. vhf radio use a MTS2000 or a MT2000.

Thanks again to all for the help

The radio will take the MTS2000 codeplug just fine...been done many times. The MTX8000/838 controllers are called 'closed architecture' boards by Motorola...meaning they aren't FLASHport capable. I figure that's really more like 'not FLASHport supported', since the board does contain a flash I.C. The difference being the MTS2000 has a 512K of memory, while the MTX has 256K. The extra memory is needed for things like SmartZone trunking. Either codeplug should work for you...either an MTS2000 or MT2000.

It depends on the original native controller and what features were programmed into it. You can trick the controller into other frequency bands using the codeplug swap, but the features will stay the same. Most MTX 800 controllers can do MDC PTTID but that's about it for signalling options.

From what I've seen, the H-3x options are inclusive of previous options. So H36 would also include H35. H38 would include the H35-H38 series.

I know this is an old post but I plan on doing the same swap soon. Will the MTX8000 controller also support GE-Star? Also the MTX8000 I will be using is a B5 limited keypad. Will I need a codeplug for the limited keypad or can I just edit the options of a full keypad down to a 6 keypad? Lastly, if I do need the limited keypad codeplug does anyone have one they could send me? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as this is my first attempt at this.

I've never seen it work. The latest MTX firmware radio I've had was 1.42 and it wouldn't do it.

I think the only Jedi stuff that does Star is MT2000 and HT/JT1000.

It doesn't work. It will give you the option to turn it on, but I guess the controller doesn't understand what to do with it once it's programmed in. Thanks for the reply.
