Well, the reason it's referred to as a "whored out" flashcode is because it's already loaded with just about every possible option (including some mutually incompatible ones). What were you looking to add?

As far as the XTS5000, yes a new flashcode can be bought, but only through Motorola directly.

Quick question, say you have a flash for astro/smartzone and you want to upgrade to astro/smartzone/digital-id display, are you paying for the astro/smartzone again, or will they just look at the difference for the digital-id and charge you for that?

already answered these questions for this goof via PM, nevermind the fact that he wanted *me* to upgrade his radios (?wtf?)

I'm guessing that MDA = muscular dystrophy assn....

but anyway....since motorola will NOT TOUCH (nor will 99% of the MSS's) a radio with the 4F1E flashcode.... ur screwed.

enjoy your nick radios my friend.

Yeah man, in fact they'll probably charge you for the whole radio all over again

I didn't know how much /\/\ nickeled and dimed everyone. And if you don't have the receipt (i.e. bought off eBay/batboard) you can't prove you bought those options to begin with, which was the point I was trying to make. I've read if you send your radio to the depot and you have stuff you're not supposed to they send it back with a basic flash. So I'm not asking from the standpoint of a municipality, but the individual that gets his radio second-hand and wants some more features in it.

As far as I know, firmware and flash upgrades do not go to the depot. I just refreshed the firmware in my 5k from my home computer.

And yes, if you do send in a radio with a whored flash you are not likely to get it back that way. You should understand the whored flash has anywhere from $3-5000 worth of software in it. I'm sure you'd rather get the radio back with a basic flash than a bill for that amount that needs to be paid in full before the radio is returned.

I'm not talking about those with whored out flashes, just people that buy radios second hand with only a couple options but want to upgrade to more. And if they don't have programming equipment handy, and bring it to a MSS, and ask for the update is where I was trying to go with my question.

If the tags match the guts, you will be able to keep whatever options came with the radio. /\/\'s got a database of what serial numbers got what flashcodes, and any additional flashcodes ordered should be in the database as well.

You don't need to worry about "losing" legitimate software
