Fix for Spectra Error 81

Post by deznetwork »

Ok I just received my 4 Hi Power Spectra's from ebay 2 UHF & 2 VHF. The price was so good even if 1 was usable it was going to be worth it.

So I powered on the first one (UHF), It powered up, thats a good start :D I got an Error 28/10 then Error 29/10 ( Also have a 49/10 writen down but not sure when I got that error ).

Now time to program when I try and read the radio I got Error 81 Cannot Access the EXT Security Housing, I searched and search here and google for that error, every page I found said just give up. Well I hope other will not need to give up.

This Fix has worked for both radios I have tried (UHF and VHF)

For this to work you need LAB and you need a good code plug of a similar radio. Some of these steps may not be needed, but this worked for me.
Make sure you know how to edit the moflags use http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?t=22696 as a guide if needed.
Warning you may turn your radio in a nice paper weight, but hey it was not working before...
  • * Get the current settings ( Moflags, bandsplit, serial, anything else you can think of
    * Now clear all the moflags, set them all to 00
    * Change the model and serial to match your good code plug.
    * Now program the radio with the good code plug you have. It may complain about version mismatch and options that may not work. Just keep going.
    * Now read the radio
    * Re program the radio to clear the Error **/82
    * Now you should have a radio you can program!!!!!!!
    * Now you want to change the model number and serial back.
    * Now time to set your moflags to the options you want, use the orginal settings as a guide
I have 2 more radios with the Error 81, to try and clean this up.

You forgot a critical step - complete a full realign of the radio. Doing this process will nuke the softpots.
