Motorola saber will not accept programming

Post by RadioMaster08 »

My Motorola saber 1 will not accept programming. The Motorola dealer said it needs a code or password to open or go into the radio

Standard Sabers never required any passwords, and as the previous poster stated, it was probably the word 'codeplug' that was chewed up in translation.

Simply create a codeplug that matches the radio's options and CORE values, most appear to be of the 5D variety, so choose ONLY options that will work reliably with this CORE, and never select the 6D or 8D while using F4 radio options, as they will not work and will cause the radio to either not transmit nor receive, or cause audio problems such as tone falsing or improper decoding, the problems are many though, but not all the time.

Same goes for enabling MDC AND having scan active, you will see a warning for this, but you can 'DO' it, but be warned that MDC decoding may be falsed or will not decode properly, so use at your own risk.

Sabers of this period also have slow PL attack times, which produces a pronounced 'thump' while scanning, this is due to the slow PL processor used on the main board, it's not defective, it's just slow, so you hear the noise as the priority sampling is actually stripping off the RX PL tone to enable a faster scan rate, and the fact that the radio can not switch tones quick enough to be decoded properly while in scan mode.
