Unable to program XTS5000 Series III - HELP!!!!!!

Post by nbrooky »

Unable to program XTS5000 Series III :(

I have a Motorola XTS 5000 Series III that I was trying to program for someone and ended up purchasing it for myself.

When I first got the radio it powered up fine and i used it to transmit on a simplex frequency and it worked like a treat. I then plugged it into the PC and read the profile out of the unit with the CPS and saved the profile.

I then had to go out so turned the radio off and came back about 3 hours later and turned the power knob and it would not turn on again. I treid several different batteries with no luck. I turned it off and only about 50 times and the thing powered up again but before I had a chance to go and plug it into the CPS it had turned off again.

So now when I go to write the radio I get the error "Open Radio Failed e400039e" when the radio is powered on and when I turn the power knob off and hit write again I get "Radio Failed to Acknowledge e4000386" so the radio is clearly doing something but just not letting me read or write to it.

I have also tried cloning the Codeplug back in and get the "Open Radio Failed" error.

I should also say before someone asks the radio has DSN R07.00.00 or very close to it although its kind of hard to confirm that now!

Any idea's? I thought that the radio had been stunned but that is unlikely as it was not on a trunking system at the time etc :(

Reboot computer

reseat the cable on the computer and radio. some aftermarket cables don't attach corrected at the radio end.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

Like I was saying the radio does not power on, when i turn the power on the LCD screen does not display anything, it makes no noise and none of the lights come on.

I have tried other XTS5000's and I can read them and write to them with no issues with this cable so its something else :(

Try having the CPS open (with codeplug) loaded, and everything hooked up to the radio. Turn on the radio, and IMMEDIATELY press "write radio".
See if that fixes the problem. If not, then you have a defective RF deck or VOCON.

I've seen a bad 5K rf deck cause a simular problem.

You mentioned your 5K worked till you left and came back. Maybe it got dropped while your were out. Open the radio, and reseat the VOCON as well as reseat the rest of the connectors.

Double check the Soft Power Off option in the CPS, and make sure it's unchecked.

Here are some common Astro25 CPS error codes;

Radio Info is Incorrect <----there is no communication to radio
Error Code: e4000398

Open Radio Failed <----need newer CPS? not 100% on this one
Error Code: a4000309

Radio Failed to Acknowledge <----comport issue or bad prog. cable/radio hardware problem
Error Code: e4000386

Connection Error
Error Context: 24, Status: 80004005 <-------------Comport is being used by another program

Good luck :P

I know his location. There are no systems within UHF2 near him.

Yeah but their are conventional systems on UHF high band in his area.

Money on the vocon being the issue, faulty if he ain't getting anything on power up and stunned if he is.

If this is the radio that is now on eBay, it's not UHF2, it's UHF1.

I bet it ended up on the GRN (Government Radio Network, the state of New South Wales SZ OL 4.1 system) with RID 700001, like the MTS2000 I purchased from him a while ago, and it got inhibited.
