Yet another codeplug question...

Post by mgsully »

Is there anyway to (while veiwing the codeplug in hex) to make modifications AND resolve the checksum issues from duing so? I am trying to update the codeplug in my radio WITHOUT losing my model and serial number.

EDIT::::

Okay all, the answer is yes. I was able to use a second flash code and 'modify' it to keep my radio's serial and model numbers. The only problem is that I get an annoying "ER 06/10" when it starts up, other than that it works. Does anyone know what that is?

I'll check the radio's config, but I think that feature is disabled... Otherwise, it works fine.

Thats the classic symptom of the rear control head missing.
It powers on, flashes the error and then works fine.

Well manual confirms error 6/10 is an alternate control head failure. It's looking for one.

I'd be interested in knowing how you used a flashcode from another radio because I suspect you haven't done it properly.

Got it, the sencond control was enabled in the software, after disabling it, no error code posts.

About the process I used for switching the codeplugs...

"Radio A" - Target with Serial / Model Number to save
"Radio B" - Codeplug source radio

FYI, Radio A's hardware capabilities equal and exceed that of Radio B's

1. Pull the codeplugs from both radios
2. decrypt both codelugs using 'special software' (NOT LAB)
3. compile a new radio codeplug from pieces of the both the Radio A and B codeplugs... in this case Radio A's serial and model number with Radio B's ASTRO Digitial Capability.
4. Re-encrypt the new codeplug.
5. More checksum correction modifications needed at this point. My CPS will not fix checksum errors in the internal codeplug section
6. Take this codeplug and shove it!... into the radio. (in this case Radio A)
7. The radio will now display a FL 01/82 when it powers up.
8. Read it with the CPS software and reprogram it immediately thereafter without modification
9. Congrats, now you Radio A retains its serial and model number with the newfound functionality of Radio B.

IMPORTANT... BECAUSE THIS RADIO WILL NEVER TRANSMIT, TUNING WAS NOT HEAVILY CONSIDERED WITHIN THE ABOVE OPERATION! IF YOU PLAN TO USE YOUR RADIO TO TRANSMIT, READ THE TUNING SETTINGS PRIOR TO THE ABOVE OPERATION!
