Slightly of topic...

Post by gafd6913 »

I work for a man who does radio tower (mostly microwave) inspections. On an inspection in VA, he spotted this tower from the top of the tower he was inspecting.

Now, this man has been in this business for over 30 years and he did'nt know what this tower was. This picture was taken from about five miles away. Any ideas? Thanks!

Kings Diminion! It's an "Effiel Tower" remake! At least that's what I think it is, I was there in 1997, so I may be totally off! But I am VERY sure it's the amusement park!

The pic worked that way!

That might be it. Although the tower would be located about 25 - 30 miles NW of Richmond. Try clickin the link below

If that don't work, let me know.

If that's not the King's Dominion tower alongside I-95, someone else in Virginia has a good copy!

Tower...

1. Kings Dominion Park, Doswell, VA
2. Located just East of I-95.
3. Was still there as of the Richmond hamfest last January.
4. If you're not expecting it, when you see it you WILL say,
"What the HELL is THAT?"
5. Much smaller, I think, than the similar one in Paris.
6. Would make a great repeater site, if someone's not using it
already, but the problem is that it's so far from anywhere
it'd probably get little/no usage. Doswell is closer to Richmond
than it is to DC but it's the boonies no matter how you slice it.

I don't live too far away from Richmond, and have been to the Kings Dominion theme park many times. It is probably what your friend saw along I-95.

I'm not meaning to offend anyone here, but that doesn't look like any type of Doppler Weather Radar I've ever seen. I have seen similar towers around the D.C. Area, but I'm unsure of what they are used for.

Looks like a 360 deg. observation platform down a bit from the antenna.
See a wooded area, is it a fire watch tower doing double duty as an antenna tower ?
