help, looking for radio

ok, I must purchase 35 portables, minimum of 16 channels, more would be lovely! I would LOVE for it to have a screen. QCII DECODE is also wonderful as well as MDC DECODE. MDC ENCODE is an absolute MUST! We decided to give these out to our squad members. Any help is apprec.

sounds like an MT1500 1.5, except it won't decode mdc

the pr400 is not a mission critical radio and i wouldn't put it into the hands of public safety but that's just me. fwiw, the pr400 will not decode mdc ids either. the models with displays will encode selcalls though

as an aside, some guy on ebay asked me today if a cp100 was a good fireground radio?

thats not a big thing, will it endode mdc as like a caller id for other radios that can decode it? It's for a volley squad w/ 666 calls in 05.

I Hate the zones on the 1250's and there are too many features that we dont need. We need scan, scan delete, and thats it. QCII ENCODE would be nice!

true, the 1250 is another good option and would be better suited to public safety.

edit: the 1250 will encode qc2

oh definetly. My members can not function the 1250. There are too many buttons for them!

that's not saying too much. I thought the same things, until i went and selectively disabled buttons (you don't HAVE to make all the buttons do things you know) and limited menu options and my guys figured it out, and have no problems.

Kenwood TK-2180. 512 channel, QC2 encode/decode native, MDC encode/decode after adding the Cimarron signalling board.

analog. I would like to stay wit moto and not put boards in, it adds up @ that point. Especially 50 radios.

If your going to do it, do it right. Spend the money and get the quality equipment that is going to be needed to get the job done and to last. Go with the mt1500 and be done with it.

Is this for EMS?

Try to keep it simple. Scanning, decoding, and whatnot just make the radios more difficult to operate. We just got a bunch of XTS5000's for our squad, and everyone hates them. Complaints about all the buttons, what they do, and just getting on the right channel even with a screen are all problems. And the trunking system we're on just adds to the confusion. It was so much better when we were on VHF simplex with MT1000's.....

Go with the MT1550. Simple, especially on the scene of an MVA with other stuff to worry about than trying to shut the scan off on the radio. Not everyone involved with public safety is a radio tech, and even trying to explain what's simple to us would make them look at us like we have two heads.....

It is often just a matter of how radios are programmed - you can make a simple to use radio from a XTS5000 by programming it with less features.
Never had the MT1550 in my hands, does it come close to XTS5K in its make, its feel? The Waris stuff definetely is not suitable for EMS.
