XTS3000 Backlight Question

Post by Johnny Galaga »

Is there any way to increase the backlight brightness?

Higher voltage battery?

Joking. There's no way to do it through RSS. The only way I can think of is if you're gutsy and replace the individual LED's.

Wouldn't blue or orange rock! :D

Big job though... You got the keypad, display and the rotary selector at the top... Least all of these can be replaced if you have some extra $$$ and screwed it up.
AES AND DES ARE NOT CCI's - YOU CAN EXPORT THEM IF YOU WANT - Wassenaar Arrangement

Do XTS5000's have a brighter backlight then? I think I recall seeing a few photos where they looked much better.

The XTS5000 does have a brighter backlight than the 3K's

3K LED replacement is not a big task, except for the display.

How about the LED's that roll slowly roll through 7 colors. That'd be wild :-?

The keypads are cheap enough as it is - I think around $20 or so.. it would be worth it to take it to one of the guys that does SMT stuff with the cell phone modding... see how much he'd charge to swap the keypad out for blue LED's...

I looked at it and I thought the display was the easy bit... the keypad should be easy with an SMT soldering iron, though the LED in the top bit could be a pain (I hate removing the knobs to get the flex out - I always screw them up)

So, where can one source the 7 colour LEDs? 8) 8)
