I am going to purchase the CPS soon, but first I would like to know if this computer is capable of running the CPS without issue:
2.3GHz Intel Core Duo
1GiB DDR RAM
65GiB Windows Partition (Doubt that will be an issue)
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Using an RS-232 to USB adapter from dynexproducts.com (the driver says it's a Motorola product, but Dynex is the label on the product)
USB 2.0 Ports (That the adapter will plug into)
If you want to know, the RIB, and cable are from ixcessory.com, the radio's firmware is R06.27, and the RSS last used was R06.07. My old computer is dying, so I need the CPS. I hope this machine is acceptable, and has no chance of toolproofing the radio. Gatekeep believes this is fine, but I would like many opinions as paying for the CPS will prevent me from being able to afford another radio if I toolproof this one for a long time. Thanks.

CPS Computer
Hi,
I don't know about your specific USB-to-RS232 adapter, but the rest should be no problem for running CPS. There is pretty much no chance of "toolproofing" your radio with "stock" RSS or CPS - you only get into trubble if you use LAB software..
I do know that some folks are successfully using USB-to-RS232 adapters, so even if yours doesn't work for some reason, getting one that does shouldn't be impossible.

I have almost identical machine to yours (2.8 Ghz dual core) except I use a serial port, not the USB/Serial adaptor. I have DOS 6.05 and CPS version 1.10 (I think) and it has worked on my MTS 2K fine. Firmware is 5.5x in the radio. I would agree with RKG, if you want reliability, buy a serial card and use that. There have been some issues with the conversion that I've heard of but as all of my computers have had serial ports, I didn't try the USB route.
