I just did two of them.......assuming that you have the same colored wires in the new spectra cable that you're going to use to replace the maxtrac cable, replace red for red, green for green, etc.

There's an "extra" white wire in the spectra cord that I assumed was for on/off hook, but I didn't worry about it, just put some shrink wrap over the end so it couldn't short out on something.

Yep, I have done 4 of these conversions in the past year and they were quite easy. To bad Motorola never made Black spectra desk mics (I did these conversions with black desk mics)

All you should need is a Phillips screw driver and a soldering iron.

You can also do these using the DA15 connector on the back for everything except hookswitch.

I used an old Spectra microphone cable and an RJ45-type telephone block. Using the pinouts on http://www.batlabs.com and an ohmmeter, I figured out whats what, and wired the Spectra mic cable into the telephone block.

Now I can just plug in the MaxTrac desk microphone to the telephone block, and then plug the spectra mic cable into the radio...

And I can run around the house with a 100ft mic cord :)

A telephone handset style mic for spectra would be uber-hamsexy :D I know NYCT do that on their bus radios.
