Motorola GP68

Post by gkempf »

Was wondering about the GP68 portables, are they a good radio? are they programmed via the front panel? the price seems awfully cheap.

They're cheap to buy for a reason. Depending on what use you intend to put it to, they're not FCC type accepted with the exception of some of the very early models. And since they're made
for sale into Asian markets only, don't expect to be able to get support if you're in the US from Motorola.

The GP68s also lack an alpha display; it's all numbers.

I've got one and like it. Was trying to use it with GMRS/FRS frequencies the other day.....seem to remember something with frequencies rounding up/down and not being dead-on for GMRS/FRS use. Is this something with channel spacing?

Yup, GP68's came in 25/30 OR 12.5 spacing. The 12.5 is what's needed for the GMRS splinter channels. The tuning resolution can be changed from the front panel but it still won't let you get those 12.5's right.

Thanks for the update....I'm assuming there's no way to change the channel spacing in the "config-only" RSS or otherwise.

No, it's a hardware thing. "M" sells kits for GP300 and P110 for changeovers, it's a few components & filters so no hacking is gonna
work.
