FAIL 001 indicates VCO out of lock. About 99% of the time, this has to do with leaky electrolytic capacitors. The caps will need to be removed, the boards cleaned, any damaged traces restored, and new caps installed. We have a couple of board members who do such work professionally... kc7gr and Will spring to mind. They should be along shortly.

Thank you tvsjr.

Yes I do repair and rebuild Spectras professionally.

What FAIL001 indicates is an out of lock SYNTH section in the Spectra.
Most of the time the caps have leaked and maybe caused more serious dammage.

Are the astro spectra's subject to the same problem?

spongeboob101,

That fail 001 can also happen if the radio was programed with spectra software that has a modified odb file to go out of band and then was reprogramed with the same software with out the modified odb file.

I had the same problem this week and the fix was to re-read the radio with the original software and send the program back in and it worked perfect no problems.

I know a few people will disagree with what I am saying but it I tested
this method and it worked.
