HT1000 question

Post by chola »

Again fellas, I apologize, I don't know anything about radios....YET....
I am looking at a portable...it's an HT 1000 VHF...I am gonna use it in the bush for logging applications.
The reason I am going portable,is that I have no room to mount anything permanent in my skidder, plus there is no way to lock it up after the shift is over.......

I can get one for $300 Canadian funds, comes with a new mic and spare battery and a new rapid charger...it's a 16 channel model.......95% shape

Is this gonna work for me?
The range will be anywhere from 50 yards to 2 miles, max distance..

I've also heard about "narrow band" in the near future in our area..will this radio be able to make the switch over,or will I have to get a new one eventually or ????

Thanks again for all the help, any advice and experiences are greatly appreciated

If you are looking for a narrow band compliant HT1000 make sure you get an HT1000 with the models number (behind the battery on a sticker) having the last 2 characters being a DN. This series is narrow band compliant!

While you're at it, look into the cost of a BNC adapter for the antenna port and an external mag mount antenna that you can throw onto the roof of your skidder cab. Assuming the cab is all metal, as every one I've seen is, you'd be hard pressed to get anything near 2 mi. range with a 5 W portable and antenna inside the cab.

the CN series radios are also narrowband compliant (ie, H01KDC9AA3CN.

The HT1000 is a very good radio, a CN or DN will work for you needs. Always check out any used radio if it is going to be used in mission critical application and buy from reputable dealers. There is alot of recased, parts built JUNK on that popular auction site. Know your seller, if the radio is going to be used for a work environment it is worth it to spend more with a reputable supplier than take chances.
