HLN9742 Price

Post by NSPD »

Anyone have a current price for the HLN9742 Waris Flash Adapter?

I'd like to use it with a RIBless cable, but i'm not sure which one to buy. Would I need to get an OEM Motorola cable, or would I be okay with an Aftermarket RIBless cable from kawamall on ebay?

Thanks!

The Motorola OEM Waris flash adapter will not work with that particular aftermarket cable.

I wouldn't really trust firmware updates to an aftermarket cable. Programming, perhaps. Flashing, no way.

I simply bought a cable that had the extra pin for bootstrap in it, and built the flash adapter on my own.

I agree akardam though- flashing is somewhat risky. I was almost stuck with a brick once, the radio was half-way through flashing and something it didn't like occured, the radio didn't do anything except go into bootstrap mode.

So, when going to run the upgrade again, the radio wouldn't work with the software when it goes and checks the firmware in the radio.

Luckily I was able to use another, similar radio to 'trick' the software past the first screen into the "turn radio on, flip the switch" etc, and then reflash from there.

If you don't have another radio in case something bad occurs, I'd be more than wary.

This may be a dumb question.. but..

I see the HLN9742 Flash Adapter is $97.00, and I think that building my own would be the better choice... But I see that it has a DB-25 on either end. How does this mate to the DB-9 on the Ribless cable? Everything i've read says that the Flash Adapter is placed between the Serial Port on the computer and the RIBless cable.

The answer to your question is that the OEM ribless cable has a DB25 on the PC end, not a DB9. In order to use it with a DB9-style serial port you have to put a DB25 to DB9 adapter between the PC port and the ribless cable.
