ASTRO Saber Scanning Question

Post by fogster »

I'm noticing some odd scanning behavior on an AS3. I don't have my programming computer with me, so I can't look at how I set it up in RSS.

Essentially, I have a zone set up (receive-only) to monitor Boston PD, a conventional, analog system (using DPL). They have 16 channels, so I filled a zone with them. The scanlist contains their first 15 channels. (There's no activity on the 16th anyway.) Each district has its own channel, 2-6. They comprise the grand majority of traffic, but some of the lesser-used channels (1, and 7-13 or so) contain the really interesting traffic.

Priority is set to follow the channel selector.

The issue is that if I set the channel selector to one of the 'quieter' frequencies, such as 13, I hear very little traffic. If I turn back to something like 3, I hear tons of traffic again. My first guess was that I screwed up programming the scanlist. However, even on those channels, the "Scan" indicator shows up, and if I view the scanlist on the radio (VIEW, SCAN), it lists all the channels.

Can anyone tell what's wrong?

Could it be that there are close by channels locking your radio onto that selected freq's and its staying on that priority channel? Wouldn't be uncommon in large city's like that.

If you want, you can send me your CP and I can take a look at it.

Oh, btw....the way around that 15th thing, is to NOT program channel 1 in the scan list unless you really need it. Since the channel selector is on 1, it will automatically scan 1 plus the other 15. Of course, when you come off of 1, it wont scan, but it gets you 16 channels anyways.

If I understand you correctly, the answer is no. Not only is there no audio, but the receive LED never flashes on those channels.

I appreciate the offer, but I don't have my programming computer with me right now, so I can't get/send the codeplug.

It sounds to me like you have more than one scan list in the radio, and not all of your BPD channels are tagged to the same list.

Occam's Razor would agree. However, if I viewed the Scanlist on those channels, shouldn't it be showing me different channels? Doing VIEW, SCAN shows me all the BPD channels, even if I'm on one of the 'quiet' channels, which is what I find so strange.

I think I'm gonna have to go get my programming computer set up again...
