My Edsels.

Hello to ever might read this, ,My name is John Verser de N0TOP.
I own a Spectra, Maxtrac and a MT1000 with Convertacom.
I love my Motorola stuff and tell other people so, I dont fault
others for what they own.
The other day I was talking to a ham Freind of mine and told him
I had found a guy who had moded a Motorola DTMF mic for 16 dtmf keys.
I told him I had sent the guy a email abt moded one for my Maxtrac.
Well, he was not as excited as I was to say the least. He said it was the same as throughing new money in to a old car. He also said I would never get parts for some of my stuff, He said its the same as owning a Edsel.
I told him, I wish I owned a Edsel, I would sale it to buy more
Motorola gear.

Many of us have otherwise-okay ham friends whose mindset
about used Motorola radios is absolutely one of intolerance
and ignorance. Some guys I've met are positively nuts on the
subject; e.g., "Don't show me that stuff; I don't want to have
anything to do with it." None of us can figure out for certain
where this attitude comes from but it's ugly when you see it.
I just smile and go on my way, enjoying my /\/\ radios, even
though they don't have VFOs, but usually with so many
channels in the radio I don't need a VFO!

True that... I just saw a bunch of them at the Cactus meeting yesterday 3 Astro radios in the entire room... 2 of them from ICIS radio shop personnel and yours truly hehe

Eh, Cactus is a bit old-school... there's a fair amount of Astro-sexiness (probably 10-15 of us) in the Dillo crowd. Tone us up and say hello one day... either via RF or via the DRIL at Black.

Chris, what exactly is your problem? You take every opportunity to snipe at me for no apparent reason... what have I ever done to you?

I wasn't commenting on the network... we use the same 30-year-old shite that you do. And, there's nothing wrong with being old-school... it just means you tend to not see many XTS5000s sitting around in a meeting.

d119... I saw AML's truck and was shocked and awed. It's a pretty slick install, all things considered, all the other stuff he's put in it are just amazing. If there's ever an earthquake he's going to be the first one I call... He gave me the freqs for his boss' IMBE repeater and I'm itching to get them programmed into my AS3. I didn't stay for dinner last night, we took off after the afternoon session, but the beer and pizza on Friday night was top notch.

Terry... I'll see if I can't get in touch with you sometime over the air... it would sure be something ham it up with a boardmate that's ~1500 miles away

The question is... do we go the hard way and try to make it on RF... or do we route through the 'net? One way's pretty easy... the other way's way more sporting.

escomm - I got all the Kenwood gear and the Pyramid mobile repeater equipment together for that truck... I did the interfacing and programming on it, it went together pretty well! He needs a UHF CDM1550 if you have any used "R" split ones laying around let him know...

I get on the IMBE machine from time to time, but I haven't got any IMBE mobile equipment, just portables. I mainly use the issued portable in IMBE mode on that repeater, or just the analog from the X9000 in the work truck.

Oh and Terry: *snipe snipe*. Fine, I'll be nice.
