Just recently had an XTS5000 do the same thing...took 3 days of constant bench testing, but finally replicated the problem. The radio appeard to be "on", but wouldn't tx/rx, and wouldn't change channels. It remained "on" even when the power switch was in the "off" position. Battery had to be removed to return things to normal.

This radio appeared to develop this problem after going to the depot for a new RF board (low tx power). It was sent back in within a month or so, and they replaced the vocon. Unfortunately, the problem remains, and it is back to the depot right now. We'll see what happens next.
