Astro Plus programming question

Post by n0vzc »

Hello,

I have a Astro Plus Model No D04UJF9SW4AN. How does this get programmed? I have the HKN6155A cable for the mic connector and when I plug that in the display goes blank and I also have the DB15 cable and when I try to read the radio with that the radio resets and the RSS says "Timeout Error".

Thanks for your help,
Mike

HKN6155 is the correct cable.

It is normal for the Spectra+ display to go blank when using this cable. [That doesn't happen when using the cable with XTL5000's]

Error when using the 6155 cable

Post by n0vzc »

When I use the 6155 cable the rss comes up with the error "Protocol Entry Error" when I try reading the radio. What would cause this?

Thanks again for everyones help on this,
Mike

You must use Astro25 CPS on the Spectra+

I have Version R08.00.00 Radio Service Software for the ASTRO Mobile Radios.

That is not the right RSS?

Thanks,

1. Astro Mobile/Portable RSS 08.00.00 is ooold. The date on the startup screen is probably somewhere around 1998 or 1999.

2. Astro Mobile/Portable RSS programs Astro Spectras, Astro Sabers and XTS3000s. The Astro Spectra Plus is an upgraded Astro Spectra with different firmware and requires the Astro25 CPS software.

RVN4185, about 300 bucks, after you sign the necessary agreements.

I've got a new HKN6155A cable and everything else checks out OK, but it won't read the Astro Spectra Plus. I understand that the display goes blank normally, but the radio will still program. Any suggestions?

When you plug in the programming cable into the radio the display will go blank. It is ready to be programmed now. The display will not come back on until the cable is removed.

This is a dash mount with the traditional style A4 Control Head
on an Astro Spectra Plus radio.

When I reseated the connector into the Mic port of the Astro Spectra Plus,
the HKN6155 cable worked like a charm.

You have to make sure that the Red and Amber lights
do not remain on as sometimes they do when the display blanks
out. It then read the radio just fine.

The screen blanking throws most of us who have not read one
of these radios before. I just presumed that it was an error
or worse, but that's how works.

The HKN6155A is clearly the right cable for this radio and it
does work properly when programmed through the Mic port.

Thanks for all the help.
