Spectra or X9000 Control Head

Post by bondo »

How do you tell the difference between a X9000 control head and an Enhanced Spectra head with a X9000 mount ?

Also, will a X9000 head work with a DEK box on a Spectra, or do you have to have an Enhanced Spectra head with a X9000 mount ?

Thank's

The official Spectra compatible 9000E control heads started with the HCN1045B and later versions. All the Syntor X 9000 control heads work with an analog Spectra, but not all of them always program with an analog Spectra. If you do use any of the older heads like the HCN1045B, you have to short the Mic Hi line while programming the radio/head on the Spectra (Motorola used to sell an accessory Spectra microphone plug that shorted the Mic Hi line). The newer SMD construction heads HCN1062 and later do not need to short the Mic Hi line.

You tell the difference by programming the X9k head on an analog Spectra. If its a HCN1045B or anything higher then it will work unless its broken to begin with. I cannot tell you if the HCN1036 will program an analog Spectra or not (try it if you need to know).

A DEK should work with any 9000 head that will program on the Spectra.

Enhanced heads are only a problem with A2, B2, C2, E2, A5, B5, C5, E5, A7, B7, C7 or E7 heads. On these you need a Systems 9000 cable remote mount enhanced head to use a DEK, and the part number of the control head main circuit board tells you if its enhanced or not. Try and program in the control head enhanced back light settings to test any of these heads. If you can change the default then it is enhanced. If you program it and the default back light behavior doesn't change to what you programmed, then it is not enhanced.

Thank's Mike... I have a X9000 head on a remote spectra. If I program the control head for siren functions with the siren/pa box all works fine. If I try a DEK box, the DEK lights, a red light stays on above the first button and the DEK box does not work. New DEK cable and Dek box reults are the same..... RSS indicates x9000e contol head... Any ideas are welcomed....

What is the part number on the back of your A9 head?

If you have an old head with a 2K eeprom it might be freaking out when the DEK is enabled. BTW, this is only speculation about a possibility. I do not know if Siren/PA DEK cares about a 2K eeprom or not.

I assume you are using the control head connector VIP port and the middle 6 pins of the DEK connector for your DEK cable.

The top left lists where the DEK cable connects to the control head and the bottom middle lists where the DEK cable connects to the DEK.
