Impres charger
I got a new Impres charger (WPLN411AR). It has a small slide switch on the bottom labeled A/B but I can't find any mention of this switch in the book. It was shipped preset on A and seems to work fine there but I don't know if it is correct. Anyway, does anyone have an idea what this switch does? BTW, the charger is also labeled ver 1.20.

Re: Impres charger
I know this is a real old post, but hopefully someone can help me. I just bought a new Impress charger (WPLN4114AR),ver1.3 and it came with no manual. I was wondering about the A/B switch also and what is the round cap near the a/c socket that has arrows on it? Thanks in advance.John wrote:I got a new Impres charger (WPLN411AR). Re: ,...
Thanks for all the replies. What will it do using it like this ver 1.3? Will it hurt the batteries, standard or impres? Where do I go to get the upgrade? Thanks for all your help!!! garybatdude wrote:and if your charger has firmware 1.3 in it --- GET IT UPGRADED

Any Motorola shop should be able to flash the charger for a small fee.
There is no cost for the firmware, just the labor which is abgout 10 minutes (most of that getting a coffee while the flash procedes.
If you take just the board in it may be cheaper as then the tech doesnt need to open the case. You can also remove the sticker with a knife (under where the battery sits) and that will give them access to the port.
The paper work may take more time than the job so maybe they will just do it. Alternativly you can ask someone on the board who has a impress programmer to do it for you.
current version is 3.4 (i think)
1.3 was not a good release and it it depends on what model impres batteries you are trying to charge, but if you upgrade it to the latest version you will get battery life as the algorithms have improved over releases.

I have never heard of an issue with version 1.3. We have about 600 units running version 1.3 (but we are only running original XTS3000 batteries). Newer release has updates for newer batteries such as XTS1500/2500 and Li-Ion types.
There was an issue with version 3.0 and a service bulliten was released regarding this.

Its not just for new batteries.
As I said the charging algorithms have improved so it is best to upgrade.
The programmer is
RLN5671A IMPRES FLD PROGMR W/NA/LA PLUG
and is about $200.
you download the latest version firmware free from MOL.
We upgraded nearly 600 chargers from various versions so everything was the same.We also removed any non impres chargers and gave them to agencies that have yet to switch. The main reason is we have XTS1500,2500,3000 and 5000 radios out there so anyone can use any charger as required.

its 2 cables, a black box, and a power supply
you power the box , plug the USB into your computer.
the box will look for where to download the software.
once downloaded you disconnect from the computer,
plug the other lead into the charger and press the big red button.
wait until the Led goes green and thats it.
you need to have access to MOL with software downloads.
you also need to have justification such as loads of chargers to program

You're thinking of the regular Impres single unit chargers. The Pro series single-unit chargers actually have a removable cover with the Impres lable on it in the bottom of the charging cup, which you should be able to remove to get to the firmware socket. Only problem is it uses a T6 torx... thanks a lot, Motorola...Bruce1807 wrote:Actually you can use a hobby knife on the sticker where tha battery sits and the socket is availableakardam wrote:[Yes, although you have to dissassemble the charger to get to the firmware socket.
