CDM1550LS Question

Post by WFD_ENG3INE »

I have access to a cdm1550ls 5AN version for a great price but the only problem is I need it to be able to use MDC signaling on the Conventional channels. Has anyone recently been able to upgrade the unit to the 6AN version? Or know how much it would be to send it out to the depot?

Also when I tested the unit it was picking up alot of strange interference on some channels, almost like it is not recognizing the PLs. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

Well the PL thing... You need to have the metal clip on the back of the mic grounded in order for the radio to decode PL, unless this is disabled in software or the clip is grounded, the radio will be in CSQ for RX .

I am getting mixed signals from Motorola on whether radios can be upgraded from a low feature model to a high feature. I don't know if it depends on the product, or who replies to the upgrade quote, but don't count on the depot upgrading radios and changing model numbers.

i get the same answers, half the time they say they will do it but they will have to get back with a quote, which they almost never do but when they do it's rediculous, for another $50 you could just buy a brand new radio. and the other half they say they won't even do it. if you don't need the trunking features it's gonna be alot cheaper to just get another radio that is a non ls. even if the radio comes back as a 6an with new firmware and reconditioned and aligned it's still worthe the extra $50 for a new radio with a new warranty. or just get that radio if it's real cheap and sell it for a little more and make a couple bucks off of it and put that towards what you need?

Thanks for the replies.

I am a little confused on where to find this metal clip. Is it on the back of the radio itself? What can be disabled in the software, the PL or the need of that wire being grounded? The Conventional Personalities all have the proper TPL and/or DPL applied in the code plug, that I made sure of.

Thanks again...

read the radio and go to the radio configuration tab and uncheck the box that says hub defeats pl and you will be in business.
