XTL5000 Multi Band / Head Config
Is it possible to have a Dual / TRI Band / Single and Dual Head radio with the XTL. We have allready installed 84 vehicles with 1 700/800, 1 VHF and 1 UHF space is limited in many of the field vehicles, we have many more of these radios into the fleet and have had field agents ask the same question. If anyone knows how to accomplish this please reply. Thanks

The XTL5000's MUST BE ORDERED NEW for dual receiver/radio. Field upgrades (last I checked) are not supported in the field. This is/was what the order sheets specifically stated. This is a factory option.

I was told by someone who works down the road from you (no, not him) that there actually is a W3 ASTRO Spectra dual RADIO in existance, and has used it. I am still working on some things for your radio Seth.
There is also dual RADIO ASTRO Spectra that uses the HHCH (not W3) that works the same way as the dual radio X9000 and Spectra.
The dual RECEIVER (HRR) works on the ASTRO Spectra W7 and W9 radios. W3/4/5 is not supported.
The dual RADIO XTL5000 supposely works with all the XTL5000's but MUST BE ORDERED FROM THE FACTORY as a dual radio, radio. With dual RECEIEVER XTL5000 also must be factory ordered. Last time I looked, there is/was no field upgrade provisions.
Of course if you have a very large fleet (hundreds) of radios, the factory may do something as they have done radio conversions in the past. At that point you are dealing with the corprorate sales people. Someone mentioned that XTS? upgrades where done that way, but we are talking about a large number of radios.

The XTL5000 dual radio config is available only as an original factory order. It is available only with the W3 control head. You can connect any combination of two radios from any of the three bands (VHF, UHF, and 800).
My agency is trying one that does VHF and UHF T-Band. It is basically a HHCH spliced across two radio drawers. There is full TX and RX. Any product spoken of here that is RX only is not this.

Ok, I have heard that dual radio was expanded with the Ox heads, but I can only find W3 stuff. This is out of my last guide:
ENH: MULTI RADIO SW G474 $600.00
Requires G92
ADD: MULTI RADIO HDW INTFACE W3 W845 $1,400.00
Requires G72
G92 and G72 is the W3 and the W3 software
Pricing:The Multi Radio Feature offers the capability to control TWO (2) XTL 5000 mobile radios from ONE (1) W3 style control head. The Multi Radio Feature is NOT compatible with W4, W5, W7, or W9 control heads.
• The Multi Radio System consists of two XTL 5000 mobile radios in different bands configured for operation with a W3 Control Head, two speakers, one W3 Control Head, and associated cabling.
• This configuration is NOT compatible with W4, W5, W7, or W9 control heads.
• Typically, the primary radio is ordered with the necessary Multi Radio software option, the necessary Multi Radio hardware option, a speaker, an antenna, a mounting option, any additional radio software features and the
W3 control head. The secondary radio is ordered with the necessary Multi Radio software option, a speaker, an antenna, a mounting option, any additional radio software features and the no control head option.
• The options below are orderable from the Multi Radio Section.
-Must select the Multi Radio Software (G474) on each mobile radio used in the Multi Radio System.
-Must select the W3 Control Head Software (G92) on each mobile radio used in the Multi Radio System.
-Must select the W3 Control Head Hardware (G72) on the Primary mobile radio used in the Multi Radio System.
-Must select the Multi Radio HHCH W3 Hardware (W845)on the Primary mobile radio used in the Multi Radio System.
-Must select the No Control Head option (G88) on the Auxiliary mobile radio used in the Multi Radio System.

It will all move to MOL over the next few months but on different tiers of course. Most board users will still only see parts but the rest of us will have the ECAT on MOL. It makes sense.

My gov sales rep advised me that for a fee, and there are numerous "SP" upgrades to do then it can be done. By the time it is all said and done there will be over 800 radios with this configuration. I will be in conference calls this morning with My sales rep and engineering to discuss what is needed. I will update as soon as I find out more.
UPDATE:
We have installed the Dual Heads into Several Vehicles in California, Both radios transmit and receive, not just receive on the second radio. The Sales rep misspoke and got spanked. A three radio configuration is not availiable at this time, however the sales rep did state that if there was a large sale then the option could come a reality.
