ASIII Parts Built Radio CPS Problem

Post by DC615 »

Re-opening a cold case file.

I was recently given an ASTRO Saber III VHF, H04KDH9PW7AN, from a friend that had got out of the business, and did not need it anymore. It still works good, but I need to change the MDC ID, re-arrange the channels, add mine, and try to get the ERROR 09/10 code off after self test. I tried to read it with my ASTRO portable RSS, R08.60.00, and got the code plug too new message. I tried to read & write it with my ASTRO/XTS3k R404.01.04 and I got several errors, and the write aborted. The read was good (maybe an error or two there also). Well I sent it back to the local shop, and it was sent back to M from there. WEEKS LATER I got it back from the Depot, with a three page letter, saying that it was a parts build radio, and I could call for a quote to fix it. There was another radio shop that had written it successfully in 2003 for my friend. All I need is to program the radio.

Does anyone know where I might find a listing of software version numbers that was in use in 2003? I think maybe an older version might work; I just need a number so I can get a copy.

I hate to let it sit. Its in MINT condition, and I think this flash is pretty good too? F50101-8F0000-7

Thanks again for everyone’s help!

April 17, 2007 posting:
After a good Batboard Samaritan helping me over a year ago, I never got the radio to program. I got all the errors off, except for the codeplug and model numbers do not match message. I think that the software is catching the error in the radio (model/codeplug) and not letting it program, where there is a software version out there that will. What would it take to remove this in the radio? The radio is doing me no good, and I guess I'll have to sell it on ebay if I can't get it fixed. I'd love to be able to program it for use, and get rid of this XTS3K with a basic flash. What would this radio be worth as is?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

The flashcode itself looks odd..even for the Nick radios.

Are you reading the radio, then writing right back to it, or are you using a saved codeplug - editing it - then writing the radio?

I agree with PJ, that's a weird flash for an AS. Maybe someone on here will give up an s-record that you could try using. I'm not sure if any of the codeplugs on the "codeplug site" will go into your radio, but it's worth a shot as well I guess.

The 09/10 is a secure module error, but you said you took care of the errors, so I'm assuming you don't get that one any more.

Good luck, and look around for an s-record

Yes, and I've tried many different scenarios. When you read the radio there are several errors already in the radio. If you try to write back to the radio there are many errors before it will try to write, ending with the code plug and model numbers do not match.

After fixing the errors and trying to write back I just got the codeplug/model number message. Thats after I deleted most of the channels, fixed the errors in the modat, fixed the errors in the scan, disabled the secure (I don't think there is a secure module in it).

Back when I first posted about the radio, I sent the cpg file to someone that wanted to try to help me. He sent the file back, and I tried to load it, with no luck.

Well if you are willing to send the radio out, I can probably take care of its issues.

Update

Post by DC615 »

I'm sending the radio out to KB9KST. Further comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks to everyone that helped me. I'll try my best to extend my expertise if ever needed.

If Jason cannot fix it, I'll open up another discussion to see if anyone else has any better ideas. I have addresses saved of everyone that offered help.

Thanks,
Daniel
