ht-1250 paging question
Will a HT-1250 not the LS model just the regular 1250. Will it decode tones like Minitor pagers? We have some people on the dept carrying a ht1250 and a Minitor 3 4 or 5. I thought it would be neat to get the 1250's programmed to page if they are capable

- What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's
in theory the 1250 can do it just as well as the pagers but it don't always work out that way in reality. especially if it's scanning. like mentioned above, be prepared to miss some calls. and depending on how old the firmware is qc was a big problem with older firmware.

We tried this a few years ago, with not very good results.
If you can't afford to miss calls, then stick with a pager.
If you are going to set up a channel for paging, make sure you lock it out so that it can not be added to scan list. Make sure you remove "selected" from the scan list. If you leave the scan capability active YOU WILL MISS CALLS!!
Pagers are for paging , Portables or for talking.

As far as using a HT for paring, the dept a I was with in the 90s did it with Kenwood 270 HTs. They worked fine, and as long as the radio was monitoring our primary freq OR the radio was used to true pager mode (parked on the tone out CH) they worked great.
Scanning will be just like any other time you scan, not 100% sure of hearing the call...

If turned on in the software, the user can change the alert tones in the menu. Some are better than others. There is one that is sure to get their attentin (its annoying and LOUD).
We needed more slots for tones than what it would offer, so we are trying to alert the portables with MDC and send qcii for pagers. Haven't tried it yet. Still waiting to see how it works out.
