CDM 1550 question how many channels will it scan?

I'm getting ready to purchase a CDM1550 NON LS model, I've been told it will scan MORE than 16 channels, can anyone answer this question?

Also, will my CPS software that I use for the CDM1250 program it?

Looking in my archives I have a file from one non-LS 1550, it only has 16 slots in the scan list, and you use the same software as the 1250 to program it.
