What antenna is on this 2500?

Is it the Visar?

If so, I read somewhere on here that it's not recommended for the XTS series. Was that just one opinion or widely stated? Just looking for all my options for XTS5000 antennas

Yep, looks just like the VHF antennas I have on my visars. Also tried them on the XTS, they fit fine.

Never heard of them not being bad for any other radio, maybe someone else has an answer on that.

I know that they generally will not perform as well as the "regular" VHF-Band Segmented antennas, or the wide band helical, but they do work. I recommend and use the wide band helical for VHF, but that's just me.

I have one of those for my MTS2000 and they work well. As Rayjk110 said, they are not the greatest compared to the VHF wideband (red color coded) one, but at the size of a UHF whip and being able to flex, they are a good alternative to the helical ones.

Just a side question, are these basically the same as those new cheap M pointed antennas?

As stated before, I use these on my visars, but the range on them is not nearly as good as my GP300's. If that's the case, I may want to change mine out also.

Honestly, most of my repeater work is from 5-20 miles away from a repeater at 1300ft above ground level, so I could use anything

I know the wideband will have the most gain (well, the least loss

) and the Jedi 136-151 duck is just barely shorter than the wideband, so I just needed something handy for local use.

I remember reading a post saying that it was not recommended for the XTS series, but I have to find it. He might have had no idea what he was talking about, that's not the 1st time there was wrong info on "teh interweb"

An antenna is an antenna is an antenna. If it works fine on the VHF Visar, it'll work just fine on a VHF anything, so long as the antenna is spec'd for the frequency you are operating on. I have one of those Visar style antennas for my Astro Saber for when I'm using it in close range from who I'm talking to, as it makes it much smaller. I've never had a single problem with it.

same here. I have one on my MTS2000 and formerly had it on my Astro Saber. They work just fine.
