Programming a CDM 1250

Post by pluto1914 »

I have a CDM 1250 that is installed in a cabinet with a tone remote controller. I want to pull teh mobile out of the cabinet and use it else where. I tried pulling it out and found that it didn't function at all when removed from the cabinet. Is there some sort of special programming I need to do with the CPS to change it to work properly. I have attached pictures to show its current installation.

The basic answer is: no, there is no special programming for switching back and forth between TRC control and local control-head control.

However, we might have to know a few more things. For instance, what do you mean by "didn't function at all"?

If you mean the radio wouldn't even power up, I'd guess that it was programmed for ignition sense, and had B+ supplied to the ignition pin via the cabinet set-up; and when you pulled the accessory connector to remove the radio, you lost ignition B+.

If you mean that the radio powered up but did not pass any received audio, I' guess that when you pulled the accessory connector to remove it from the cabinet, you didn't replace it with another to complete either the internal or external speaker circuit.

There could be a bunch of other possibilities.

We've installed a lot of CDMs as control stations in consoles; some controlled by TRC and some controlled by E&M. While this requires some programming of the programmable accessory connector pins, it generally does not interfere with use of the radio via the control head (unless we've interrupted the internal speaker because we want audio to pass via the channel card or not at all).

This is possible, did you try pushing in on the volume knob? Some people are not familiar with the cdm's on off switch.

There is no speaker jumper on the cdm radios, Did the internal speaker work before? Sometimes people remove the head and unplug the speaker that is inside when they are using it as a base such as this.

regarding the speaker... I haven't even gotten that far into it. I will look at the ignition sense as the unit would not power up. Where do I look in the CPS for the ignition sense and for yucks where do I look for the speaker option?

The ignition sense is in radio configuration, accessory configuration tab. Choices should be set to none, on/off and ign and ign only if I remember correctly. The speaker, is not a cps programmable item, you would have to remove the head, but lets see if we can get it to turn on first. If you plug it back into the cabinet, does it turn on?

I tried changing the ignition sense to disabled, whcih acording to the CPS will allow me to power the radio via the button. Well that doesn't work. After programming, the radio made a series of beeps. I tried turning the backlight on and disabling the Ignition Sense and neither work as they should. The radio will still only turn on with teh accessory cable plugged in.

put the radio in that rack and turn it on and get it working the way it was installed and start unplugging things and take mental notes of what happens when. if you can unplug everything except the main power in that rack there is no reason it won't work on a battery or power supply.

The only thing I have found is that if I unplug the accessory connector in the back of the radio, I cannot turn it on. I tried setting the CPS Ignition Sense option to disabled and it did nothing.

The only thing I notice is a white wire that cames from the + power wire into the accessory connector. I assuem this is the ignition sense wire.

The Accessory Pins are as follows:

Accessory Package: RICK or I20R Tx

Pin 3 External MIc PTT
Pin 4 PL and CSQ Detect/Talkgroup Detect (output)
Pin 6 Channel select 1 (Input)
Pin 8 Channel select 2 (Input)
Pin 9 Null
Pin 12 Channel Select 3 (input)
Pin 14 Channel Select 4 (Input)

ok read the radio while it's in the rack, open the radio configuration box, click on the accessories configuration tab, on the bottom where it says ignition sense, turn it off or disable it then write that back to the radio. take the radio out of that rack and plug it into your vehicle or power supply and push the power button and you'll be in business.

I tried that and it didn't work...I chose to disable ignition sense. Is there another power option?

I still find it strange why I cannot get the backlight on.

what bandsplit is the radio? get a codeplug from a different radio and write that to it and see if it fixes it. save your old one first so you can put it back later if you need to.

HLA, he probably means its a Low Band (ex 42-50mHz)
not low split UHF. You can tell by the slighty larger heat sink on the radio too that it is lowband.

ok i don't have anything low band but if somebody else here does and will give it to you just write it to your radio and see what that does.
