xts 3500r mic gain control

Post by libuff »

i was wondering how to tune the gain up higher than +3 on the xts3.5kR

i've found the option in the radio wide screen to allow fine tuning of the internal and external mics, they range from -12 to +3

i was wondering if there is another way to change the volume on that mic.. i still need to be pretty close to get the mic to be usable..

What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT

Mic "gain," or distance...

Post by Tom in D.C. »

Everything I recall ever reading on this subject from
Motorola said the proper distance for decent
deviation was 2 inches from the front of the unit.
Problem is that I usually "test" by listening on
another radio instead of looking at the scope on
the service monitor, the other radio being at hand
and the service monitor being all the way down in the
basement!

Before you said the recommended distance, I wanted to see how far he was trying to use it from. :)

Some users around here (officers, etc) think they should be able to have the mic 1 foot away and have it work well. Others think they never have to remove the radio from there belt and talk via the radio and not the speaker mic (range issues).

well, i think more than 2 inches is optimal, my MTS2000 A4 used to have good clear audio through the mic past two inches, i find myself having to do the ever bad radio to the lips to get good quality sound on the other end...

i'd like to see good audio to 2-3 inches away from mic, but with +3db on the settings, i am still getting pretty low mic volume...

i've also seen some BIG audio ranges on the Waris series stuff... i work int he EMS services, we used to have a chief that we used to adjust the mic volume WAY down, since he used to swallow the radio when he talked on it... others needed the mic adjusted up very high for the low talker...

for that matter, i was also looking on the receive info as well for the treble adjustments, i also adjusted the treble for +2 on both Analog/Digital.. what would be the best way to check the treble levels?
