ht-1550 XLS Cancer??? Major Display Issues

Post by libuff »

Myself and a few friends have HT-1550XLS with the same symptoms, is this the next Cancer? (Following suit from the Spectra Cancer)...

we have Display issues, whereby multiple lines are missing.. but the display is still working... my job also has about 20 of these, and probably 5-10 have this issue as well...

What is the answer to this problem... is it actually the display frying out? or the Display Flex-Cable?

please help me so i can make this repair a quick and cheap one... i'd rather not buy a new display, but hey, what do they go for these days?

Thanks for the info guys...

There was a service bulliten out on this. Bulliten is expired, but they will probably honor it if you request a repair under the SRN.

SRN - 1502A
APC - 841
August 2005
Distribution: Service: MOL: Two Way Portable Deadline: September 1, 2006
From: Subscriber Product Group
Subject: HT1550XLS – Display Row/Columns Missing
Symptoms:
Radios exhibit missing pixel rows or columns in its display.
Potential Problem Radios:
All HT1550XLS radio’s built before date code 5305 are potentially affected. Eligible serial numbers for this repair are
xxxxFPxxxx or earlier. Tanapa numbers are as follows:
VHF (136-174MHz) UHF Band1 (403-470MHz) UHF Band 2 (450-527MHz)
PMUD1716A PMUE1762A PMUE1763A

Corrective Action:
Due to additional enhancements made to the radio’s front cover it is recommended that the radios be sent to the appropriate
Motorola Depot for repair. A detailed description of the repair is listed below. You must replace all of the following items
when repairing an LCD/keypad issue.
- LCD part number 5105385Y57. This is the same as the old one. All old parts have been purged.
- Keypad board part number 0104020J46. This should be a Rev. F which is printed on the board itself.
- Poron pad part number 7586477Z01. This needs to be placed on the back of the speaker magnet.
- Display pad part number 7585688Z01. This needs to be placed between the plastic housing and the new LCD.

I tried this last October for a bunch of units a customer had. A good number of them were bad. I had a case opened with Motorola to see if they would do it, and they told me no.

The customer had just going to upgrade to an LTR system, and they had to replace over 200 SP50's. They were going to keep the 1550's and go with more but that blew the deal for M. That is OK, they went with the Kenwood TK3180's, and a Kenwood Systems Group LTR system and they love them. Motorola knew the customer was going to upgrade, and they did not seem to care.
