Odd Flashcode

Post by fogster »

I came across a radio which purportedly has a Flashcode of 7D9108-DFD000-1. It's apparently from a Texas PD. (Yes, it's up on eBay, but I have no intentions of buying it.)

Does anyone "know anything" about this Flashcode? It just seems really strange. A few questions, in particular:

"H260 250 Modes for Astro W3 & W4" doesn't even make sense on a portable that normally does 255 modes?

"Q190 Channel Change ID" -- I've never heard of this, and the only thing that comes up on a search is someone else asking what it is.

"H07 Software Multikey Operation (VSELP Only) / G356 Unknown (Astro25 Mobile Only)" and "H29 Software Singlekey Operation (VSELP Only) / G355 Unknown (Astro25 Mobile Only)" are included, but it's an IMBE portable (or so the Flash claims... host R05.60.00/ DSP I06.05.02), so none of this makes sense.

I almost want to buy the radio just to play around and see what these features actually come out to... This seems like a really strange setup.

Channel Change ID is like Auto Affiliate but for a conventional system. The Police up near me (Toronto) have it in their SP MTS2000 radios. Basically, when you change conventional channels, it sends an MDC squack over the channel which is used to announce your presence on the channel. On a properly equipped console, it will then show your unit as being on that channel. It also sends out a squak when you leave that channel to announce that you're going somewhere else.

Aw shucks. And here I was hoping it was something like the XTS5K's ability to give an audible alert (to the user) of what channel it was one.

BTW, the third 'soft button' on the radio seems to say "PR2" -- what is that? Is it just a generic programmable action (part of the One-Touch Operation)?

I knew it was only a question of time until someone came up
with a flashcode that exceeds the overkill of "599108-1C5E00-1."
(My only question is whether it's real or made up.)
Options Installed on this Flashcode:

7D9108-DFD000-1

Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H260 250 Modes on W3 and W4 (150 or 160 channels for MTS2000)
H14/G114 Digital ID Display
H101,G101,H169 Conventional Repeater Access (Analog Operation Only)(MDC1200 or Singletone)
H868/W969 Multikey Operation
H868/W298 Conventional Multikey and Analog Conventional MDC OTAR
G170/H43 Remote Monitor and Radio Trace
H46 One-Touch Operation
H39 Selective Radio Inhibit
H38/G51 Smartzone Operation
Q181 Add StatAlert (MDC1200) Features
H07 Multikey software encryption
H29 Single key Software Encryption Option
Q354 OTACS (Over The Air Channel Steering)
Q353 OTACR (Over The Air Channel Reassignment)
Q352 Soft ID
Q351 MODAT Operation
W947/Q947 APCO Packet Data
H270/H738 MDC Status Message
Q190 Channel change ID

Yikes!

Heck no it's not real.. It's a good example of what happens when someone gets a hold of a certain program and keeps turning options on, thinking the more options the better..

I've seen what happens when you literally "enable" everything, and your flashcode starts looking like a bunch of F's, E's and so on. This is a very good example of that.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

It had a bunch of the suspect whore features, but most of us here know the common whore Flashes, and I'd never heard of this one, so I had to wonder...

I have to admit, I want to try out a radio with these features... If nothing else to see how it behaves. What happens if you use VSELP software encryption in an IMBE radio? Or if you have the "upgrade" to 250 modes?

Is that all it takes? I'd always been under the impression that assembling your own set of Flash features was something that could only be done with a rumored-to-exist newer version of ASTRO Lab. Is the software to do this actually the MTSX Lab that seems to be floating around out there? (Disclaimer: I don't have MTSX Lab and am not looking for MTSX Lab. I'd always just assumed that 'new' whores were hard to come by.)
