Desk Mic Question

Post by johnny1225 »

I have a M1225 Mobile Base with a HMN3000 Desk Mic. My question is when you press the transmit button to tx the radio the tx red light comes on the mobile and so does the monitor light. When you depress the tx button the red tx button goes off and so does the monitor light. Is the monitor light suppose to come on when transmitting with the HMN3000 or is there a problem with the mic. If there is a problem with the mic is there a simply fix or do i have to replace the entire mic.

Thanks in advance

This is more of a guess than anything, but a lot of desk mikes interlock the Tx and Monitor functions so that Monitor has to be pressed for Tx to function. Logically, Monitor makes no sense while transmitting; take a look at your mike and see if that interlock can be defeated (if it bothers you).

But monitoring before you transmit not only makes sense, but is also an FCC requirement.

Edit: I was so proud Saturday when I did an install for a local tow company and saw the dispatcher holding the monitor button down for 5 seconds before each transmission

Wow in 20 years I have never seen it used :D
In fact everyone used to ask me and a I'd tell them and the response was usually " :o " and that was that.

Yes, it is normal for the HMN3000 mic to latch monitor as well. Why? I don't know, but it does it with a handful of GM300's and MaxTrac's that have been thru here, as well as a couple of installations at different locations. Sounds like it's operating fine.

My HMN3000B at home does the same with SM50, 120 and GM300's I've owned in the past.

Also, if you press lightly/gently the PTT it will go into monitor mode - most likely to prevent 'keying over' an active call.

As you know it also has the monitor button and since its not a hang-up mic will always have mic-hook grounded and monitor will be selectable on/off on radio.
