Notice of Intent to Cancel XTL 5000 W7 & W9 Control Unit

This just in:


Motorola’s Government & Enterprise Mobility Solutions Business is formally announcing the global intent to cancel the ASTRO Digital XTL W7/W9 control head product series in all radio bands and radio models. Motorola’s W7 and W9 control head replacement will be the XTL 5000 O5 and O3 control head.

ASTRO Digital Spectra W7 Last Order Entry
All ECAT (Electronic Price Pages) will be pulled from visibility no later than the second
week of June 2007.
5/30/2007
ASTRO Digital Spectra W7 Last Shipment from Distribution Center.
No customer ship dates will be scheduled after this date.
6/30/2007
ASTRO Digital Spectra W7 Last Field Service Support 5 years to
conclude. Parts and services supported through 6/30/2012

ASTRO Digital Spectra W9 Last Order Entry
All ECAT (Electronic Price Pages) will be pulled from visibility no later than the second
week of January 2008.
11/30/2007

So, this means that we can expect the market to be flooded with XTL 5000s at ever diminishing prices?
Right ? But, maybe not this week.

Na just the control heads as there is a retrofit to the new heads

Oh well, wishful thinking.

At these prices, my guess is that Will is going to have plenty of Astro Spectra owners seeking capacitor replacement.

Is there a replacement for the W7 head the one with the full keypad.
We have a dispatch that uses both a MCS2000 model 3 and a Spectra W7 for call alert to a fleet of units.

I don't see anything in the new head series for the XTL mobiles.

Only the O3. The rest require the use of a keypad mic.

is the 03 head the handheld control head model? The one on the right in this brochure?

There are several... your best bet is to call parts ID with the radio and serial number of your XTL. This will get you the proper TIB, cables and all that jazz if your using a W series head.

You also need to have firmware 9? in the radio to support the new heads.
