Troubleshooting help needed: W5 Control Head

Post by Josh »

I got an Astro Spectra today with an almost lifeless control head, maybe someone can help.

With it on the radio, the radio does function and all the buttons work from what I can tell, but the display does not light at all and the keypad doesn't light either.

I swapped heads with another radio and get the same thing.

the control head is 1997 vintage.

Obvious question: It isn't dimmed all the way down, is it?

In regards to your head swapping, are you saying that you put a head from another radio on your problem radio and it also has no display or backlight.. or you put the suspect head on another radio and it still has no display or backlight?

It actually doesn't matter too much anymore, I returned the radio with the head problems for a refund.

No, it wasn't the dim button being pushed, I tried that of course. The head-swap I did was the with another radio with a good head. The bad one still didn't light on the good radio, but the good head DID work when connected to the radio that came with the non-working head.
