AstroSaber R speaker
Just wondering if any of the AstroSaber R fans ever had trouble with the speaker going bad? I have a Model I UHF and the last few days the audio has a buzz tone to it, more so on error tones. I tried re-writing the codeplug and no improvement. I am wondering if the speakers eventually give up and need to be replaced and if they are still available? Thanks for any help.
AstroSaberI R(UHF),AstroSaberII (VHF),AstroSaber III (UHF),3-T73 maratrac's and one T74.
Re: AstroSaber R speaker
Interesting question... I have two VHF Astro Saber-R's. One has good audio quality, and one sounds just like what you've described. I've taken both apart, but I can't visualize any physical abnormalitiies.

Re: AstroSaber R speaker
Mine went bad, sounded horrible.
Moto doesn't sell the speaker alone, at least not from what the diagrams in the parts book and what the "local" dealer told me, or could find. The best I could do was order the whole front with electronics, and I wasn't about to do that.
I bought an HT750 speaker and installed it. The fit was a bit tight, but it worked out and sounded pretty good in the end.

Thanks Josh for the info. You wouldn't happen to remember the part number or price for the speaker with the flex and electronics would you? I found a parts list on-line for the AstroSaber series, but it doesn't show any of the 'R' models. Thank you, GaryJosh wrote:Mine went bad, sounded horrible.

Re: AstroSaber R speaker
Just to clarify (and beat to death) what Josh just posted,
a Saber R or an Astro Saber R are the same inside as a
standard Saber or an Astro Saber. In other words, the front
shield is the same whether the radio is a
regular or R Saber, or an Astro Saber or Astro Saber R.
Of course there are three models of
shields for each type of radio but you get the idea.
Saber I & Saber IR = same shield (mic & speaker only)
Saber 2 and Saber 2R = same shield (mic, speaker, keypad, memory)
Saber 3 and Saber 3R (I've never seen one) = same as Saber 2
but more memory and bigger keypad
Astro Saber same parameters apply. The difference is only in
the outside case and battery attachment method, as well as the
battery itself.

Re: AstroSaber R speaker
Thanks for the info gentlemen and sorry for the silly/beat in the ground quesion, sometimes that is the best way to learn is to ask questions. I had no idea they would take the same speaker since the 'rugged' version is water proof, to a point. THANK YOU very much for your help!!! gary
