A few XTS3000 Questions

Post by unlisted »

I'm getting a XTS3000, mod 2, and I want to upgrade it to a model 3. I'm not a programmer, but I am wondering what has to be done, and what needs to be purchased.

I'm also wondering if anyone has found a way to remove the faceplate of the radio w/o that white "tool" Motorola sells, as I cannot find a lead on it in Canada.

Here are the details on the radio:

Motorola XTS3000 800Mhz Model II
Model H09UCF7PW7BN
No Encryption
1 MEG
Host 7.70.00
DSP 08.03.03

Flash 500008-000000-1

Last programmed with CPS 05.02.00

I'm not tackling this myself, I'm sending it to a shop to get done properly, I'm just wondering what will happen/what needs to happen to it... Just so I don't get given a bill or told it needs some random part, and it does not... :-?

Unless it's a "shop" worker doing the upgrade on the side, I highly doubt that a legit Moto shop will turn your Mod 2 into a Mod 3..

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

Then pretty much all you need is the internal Mod 3 keypad board, Mod 3 housing w/rubber buttons, and an Srec or archive of your favorite flavored flashcode to dump in it. All the other parts are already in the radio since it's a Mod 2 already.

Great, I think I already have a lead on a mod 3 housing/electronics..

So basically on the programming end its just the flashcode?

And, does anyone have any suggestions (besides the white tool) on a removal method of the faceplate w/o wrecking the bottom of the case? (just for personal knowledge)

On the programming end, you need an Srec/archive from a mod 3 radio to dump into yours.. With this method, your radio will take on the flashcode of the donor radio that the Srec/archive came from. There are other ways to make the radio think it's a Mod 3, but the Srec/archive dump is a nice simple approach.

You can use a flathead screw driver to pry open the case. I'd still recommend the tool though, it locks on and makes everything a breeze

keep in mind you'll either have to write down and re-enter all the softpots in the alignment screens from the original codeplug once you "whore in" your new codeplug, especially if you want digital modes to work well. Or your "shop buddy" can do a full alignment on the radio once the new S-record is shoved in.

But, what if we start w/ an XTS 3k M1 and want to upgrade to the M2? Sorry for the late question.

Thanks for your help,

Same process, you just have to add more hardware, ie case, display etc.
