Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I got my new EEPROMS today and installed them to BLN1170B and the card just stays RED. I figure this is because I have not gotten the new ones to except the data from the PC.
I tried to upload the data and I still get ERROR 102. I got them from Mouser with the part number as CAT28C256L-15. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe you can IM or PM me and talk to me on the phone or something. I am desperate!

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Did you change the card configuration from EPROM to EEPROM when you changed the chips?
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
No, How do you do that?
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Hi, I appreciate your help. I tried to call Motorola today and was unable to get any assistance. I have placed the chip on the board. Is there anything I need todo specificly to the TOMI card to aloow it to use EEPROMs or a jumper maybe I need to change to let me write to the EEPROM? I did check all my manuals and I do not even have a manual on BLN1170.wb4bli
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Error 102 indicates that the RSS is not able to communicate with the TOMI RS232 port.
The first thing to check is that your RS232 card is jumpered correctly. That is explained in your CCII+ RSS manual.
Were you able to read the old codeplug with the RSS without getting an error? You should start by having the old codeplug in the TOMI, read it with the RSS, change the chip, then re-program the new chip.
You do need to have the memory size jumper in the right position. P7 should be jumpered across pins 1 & 2.
You may also need to change the setting of section 8 of the dipswitch.
It is also possible that your TOMI firmware is too old to support an EEPROM codeplug.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I have installed the new chip. It is in correctly as far as I can tell. I try to read the blank chip with the error 102. The card stays in RED CONSTANT. I try to write what was saved off of the old chip and still unable to write. I changed dip switch 8 as well and P7. Is P7 the jumper to increase memory size? Also Where do I need to look at the firmware to see what I have. Then what will it cost to update the firmware? The jumpers are correct on the RS232 as well.
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I don't have a firmware version history available so I have no way to determine which firmware would be too old. The firmware chips do have copyright dates on their labels, so if those dates are 1993 or newer the firmware probably is new enough.
If the firmware you have is too old, I doubt if there is any way to get an update from Motorola. You will probably have to look for a used TOMI that already has the EEPRM codeplug.
Your other option is to watch the used market for one of the supported EPROM programmers such as the Shooter or Prompro 8 from Logical devices. SInce these don't do the newest chips, they often sell for just a few bucks.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I just looked at my 6 chips on the board with white labels on them. They have 1992 on them. I am guessing it is firmware issue.
Now... If I just get me a newer TOMI, do I have to do anything else to my old BIMs and other cards? Also, do any of you have any extra TOMIs that you would part with? I only need 2. I have 1 console in my office and one in my living room. Thnx.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Billy,
1992 Firmware should be OK for EEPROM usage. I'll check the jumper config on a known-good TOMI at work on Monday. Sit tight.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Billy, et. al:
Holding the TOMI card with the component side up and the handle to the upper left, card edge connector to the upper right, jumpers should be set as follows:
P9 should be jumpered 1-2
P6 should be jumpered 1-2
P7 should be jumpered 1-2
JU14 should be OUT
JU16 (immediately on the other side of JU14) should be IN
P5 should be 2-3 & 5-6
P10 should be 2-1
P4 should be 2-3 and 5-6
P11 should be 2-1
P3 should be 2-3 and 5-6
P12 should be 1-2
I think the ones that are of importance are P9 (1-2), P7 (1-2), P6 (1-2) and JU16 (1-2). The others just set the size of E/EEPROM for the FIRMWARE, not the Personality PROM.
Bear in mind you should NOT be able to read from a blank EEPROM because it's just that - BLANK. Load a working Personality PROM file from another TOMI or from the hard disk and dump it into the blank card once the jumpers are set correctly. Make sure you have your TDM addresses set correctly.
Hope this helps.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
The card continues to be RED. I am still not able to write what I have gotten off of the EPROM. This is getting realy old. I am not sure what else todo unless this RS232 card is not working. If any of you might would have the time to help by phone I would greatly appreciate it.
The jumpers are in their correct spaces. I did them all. Is there anything else to try?

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Well there ARE jumpers that need to be set on the RS232 card for TOMI programming... Once again, I'll post that when I get to work, however I believe there is a help screen somewhere in Series2 RSS that details this..
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I have tried both settings for the RSS that is in the manaul and tried both ports on the RS232 caed. I can still read the RPROM, but when I stick the EEPROM in it will let be do nothing.
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
OK... For the BLN6755 RS232 card/OMI Relocator, check the following:
JU5 should jumper the middle pins (B)
JU6 should jumper the middle pins (B)
JU7 should jumper the middle pins (B)
JU8 should jumper the middle pins (B)
Ju9 should jumper the bottom pins (C)
JU10 should jumper the middle and bottom pins (B) and (C) (2 jumpers should be in).
If you don't have an BLN6755 RS232/OMI Relocator just try these settings on the older RS232 card... I've made it work.
Hope this helps.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Ok, I checked and tripple checked everything that was mentioned. It appears my firmware is too old. I called /\/\ and it appears my firmware is too old. The last firmware that was produced for CCII+ was made in 1997. What do any of you think you can do to help me out now. This is getting to be a bit of trouble. lol.
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
I still think somethings not right... But without having the cards in front of me, I dunno.
This one is beyond me... And I DON'T think you need new firmware... But thats just my opinion. I'm running boards with 1994 firmware in them (3.00) and undated firmware "SP 3.96" which might be that '97 stuff, dunno.

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
My friend has an EEPROM burner we are going to try and burn to the chips and see if it will let me put it in the board then. If that works then I can just do that everytime, but if not I dunno. Do you have any extra TOMIs like yours that are working that I could try to see if I have the same problem or something? I could also send you my board as well if you would wanna look it over. Thanks again for your continued help!
Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
We upgraded ours in 95 to use the eeproms.
Dont know what version they were, we switched to COIMs

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
Does anyone have 2 TOMI cards that they would be willing to part with? I am only running 2 OPs. I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking for one that is able to be used with EEPROM. I will be glad to trade mine off as I am not sighted enough for this kinda of stuff. Thanks!!!!

Wish I did...
All this just for an alert tone?

Re: Centracom II Series2 RSS and new EEPROM
No, I want to change several things like relay keying and MDC settings and the list goes on. I will gladly send someone my cards if they will work on them for me. Just need to know exactly why I can't program them.
