MCS2000 Key up Problems!!!!
Guys,
I have a dual head UHF (Range 2) MCS2000 set up in one of our fire chiefs vehicle and for some reason the radio is keying up for no reason. For what I am told, when the vehicle is started it does it about 3 to 4 times and then stops but then will continue to key up every once in a while. Fortunately, it just keys up with the pre-mdc and then unkeys. Anyone have this problem and a way to correct it. Thank you in advance.

start by unpluging the microphones and see if it happens.
Also are the jumpers correct in the25 pin Plug underneath?

Bruce,
radio justed started doing this, so the 25 pin plug has not been touched. I am pretty sure it still does it with the mic attached or unattached. Weird thing is that when it keys up, it just keys the mdc packet and then unkeys. It will do it up to 4 to 5 times in a row sometimes.

Spectras do that when the control head caps start to leak, so.. nothing liquid has been spilled into either of the remote heads, has there?

it just started doing this out of nowhere? it sounds like the emergency signal is being set off. read the radio and see if it's programmed for an emergency button, if so, then find the button and see what's shorting it out or setting it off.

and make shure nothing inside that connector is arcing out and causing the emergency signal to go off. do you have anyone around there with a cdm1550? if so program it up to recieve the emergency signal, if it's coming thru then that's the problem.

Re: MCS2000 Key up Problems!!!!
our Range 2 MCS2ks are NOTORIOUSLY picky about battery voltage. Get a good multimeter and watch the battery voltages when you start the vehicle, betchya the voltage is dropping off and the radio is getting weird.
