Radius question works but has an extra low pitch beep?

Post by nm4v »

I recently received a Radius 42-50 Mhz. to put on 6 meters and it seems to work fine. When you turn it on you get the normal beep then a low pitch beep. Radio reads normally with Rib and programs fine. D51LRA I wanted to see if there was a problem before I did the mod. Any suggestions?

According to the service manual a low pitched tone for a few seconds (5 they say) is a codeplug error. I had this with a GP300 and the radio did work as well like yours. When I put in a correct codeplug for the radio the tone went away on power up. I have no idea what bad things could happen with a sensed error like that though.

Make sure your options for the rear connector have the emergency button removed. It's giving you the extra 'bonk' because you have emergency button set but no switch wired in. The switch is typically normally closed, open on alarm.
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious. But I can't talk about it and I can't talk about why.
