Hey everyone,
I have an XTS5K I recently bought and have a question on battery life.
I have a new 4150mAh Li-Ion battery I bought that tests out at 104% capacity, but it will only last 36 hours with little TX. A 3500Mah NiMh lasts about 34 hours. Scan is off, and there isn't much RX coming through either. Is there a battery saving setting somewhere in CPS that has to be checked/enabled to extend battery life? BTW, both batteries are M originals.
The radio is being used in analog, no trunking. I'm not complaining about the battery life, but I've been told it should be longer. Any thoughts?
Thanks for all your help.
Wicho.

Re: XTS5000 battery life question
Depends.
What temperature are you leaving the radio in
By lasts do you mean starts beeping or goes dead flat.
Different batteries have different discharge curves so whilst one may start beeping sooner it may actually last longer .

Re: XTS5000 battery life question
The radio stays in 74 degree air conditioned comfort most of the time. If it's not there, it's outdoors in no higher than 90 degree weather, but not very often.
By lasts I mean the chirp of death (beep) comes on. The NiMH starts chirping at 34 hours, the 4150 Li-Ion starts chirping at 36 hours. I'll have to see how long until the radio dies completely.

Also are they both impres as there is a smart battery warning adjustment under advanced in radio waide but that tells you how early the beep starts.

Thanks for the info.
Li-Ion is Impres, NiMH is not.

If you're getting 36 hours thats pretty decent, I believe ours here at the department only get somewhere around 25hrs but they get used and abused and are rarely charged properly.
Re: XTS5000 battery life question
I've always found that NEW li-Ion batteries need to be put through 4-8 cycles to bring it to full capacity.
Had a few brand new 1850 li-ion, that upon the first few charges, the radio went dead after 5-6 hours. Same batteries after a few charges lastest 8-9 hours. Using impres charger v3.4 f/w.
Noticed the same thing with some new date code (737 & 707) OEM AS ni-cad batteries. They needed to be cycled a few times - now they are "strong like bull".
