Hello,
What is, and what are the differences between a codeplug, firmware, flashcode, DSP, and Host?

- What radios do you own?: XTS5000, APX2000

The "brains" of the radio. This information is used everytime you change a channel, key up or receive a signal. It tell the other parts of the radio what it should be doing as far as what frequency to RX/TX on, the PL, signaling type, or if it's a trunking mode, what talkgroup it should be listening for on a particular system.
Firmware -
This is what makes the radio operate. It is one of the things that lets you setup your codeplug. For example, in an XTS3000 series radio, you need firmware (host) of 7.71 or greater to be able to support the 800 rebanding plan. Anything before that and you go to change the channels in the codeplug to something in the cellular band, it will not let you.
Flashcode -
This let's you have specific items in your codeplug. It is one of the other things that lets you setup your codeplug. For example, 000001-000000-0 is for conventional only operation, 000004-000000-0 is for smartnet. If you want to talk on a smartnet system, the 000001-000000-0 would be no good, and you'd have to pay to have the firmware upgraded. There are obviously a lot more options in flashcodes than I can go into here.
DSP -
This is used by the radio to decode and encode the audio. It is especially good to have the latest DSP when it comes to digital audio, as the algorithms get better.
Host -
See firmware
This is just what I have learned over the years from personal experience, and the board, and I'm sure there are others that could give a much more detailed explanation for each one. But this will give you a general idea of what each is/does.
