Remote mount GM300 programming

Post by radio259 »

One of our guys ran across 4, what look to be GM300 or Radius mobiles. They are remote mount dual control on fire trucks. One head is a radius, and one is a GM300. Mix and matched??

For programming, do these need converted back to stand alone dash mounts??

He tried programming thru a control head with appropriate cable, software and the old laptop. no luck. These are really old quick mount style remote mount dual control set ups.

Thanks.

First off, don't hold me too anything I say here. MaxTrac, here on the board, would probably be a better bet. I'll tell you what I think, and you can proceed carefully forward from there. IIRC, you can program the Radius series mobiles with a Quickmount dual head through either head. I think this is a problem with the Waris series, but not the Radius. Either way, I think it is possible to put some different heads on some different radios. You may want to try and see if perhaps the Radius RSS (RADMBL), or Maxtrac RSS will read the radio. The body of the radio is identical for both of those and the GM300. Another question is how many channels does it have? If you are getting a "Model not supported" error message from the RSS, and it is indeed a GM300, it may have been hacked for more channels. If it has more than 16, it is definately hacked, and will have to be programmed with a hacked version of the RSS. If it has between 8 and 16, check the model number to see if it is an 8 channel. They can be hacked to 16, and once again will have to be programmed with hacked RSS. I would, however, first try reading with the RSS for the other two radios mentioned. Hope this helps, and good luck!

He did say there were 2 banks. of how many channels, I do not know. If I can get time today, I am going to try to investigate further. Just what i was told of the install, it is a hack job.

Two banks? I don't know of any Radius or Maxtrac product with multiple channel bank capability.

The lowband 99ch special Maxtrac could be set up with 2 banks.
It took special RSS.
I have not played with a dual setup, but you should still be able to program it.
Try putting just one head on the radio.
Does it error like you have the wrong rss? ....or what exactly happens.
What does the eprom sticker say?
