Rebanding...who and where?
How would one go about rebanding a fully legit, all tags matching 800 MHz Astro Saber III with a 1 meg vocon board?
If one was a "civilian", that is. Purpose is strictly to increase the radio's resale value.

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
It would need a host/dsp upgrade. There is differing opinions on what rebanding host is, some say 7.25, others say 7.70.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Astro Saber are rebanding capable? Only the ASTRO25 line are?

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
I am quite sure that Astro Sabers are rebandable if they have the later 1 meg vocon board.

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
The astro sabers are the same as far as the firmware goes as the XTS3000s, and they are rebandable, but they do require the newer firmware. I've heard it is around the 7.7x revision.dxon2m wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Astro Saber are rebanding capable? Only the ASTRO25 line are?

Yes, as I understand it you need revision 7.70 or greater to support rebanding on an XTS3000 or Astro Saber.

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
If you have a model II or III the newer displays also require newer firmware, and the firmware upgrade is included with the new displays. So if you play your cards right, you can get a new display and firmware for about $80, and then you can sell you old display to someone with older firmware for a little less than that and just about break even, and get rebanding firmware!

He is talking about an astro saber, not an XTS3k.LuiePL wrote:If you have a model II or III the newer displays also require newer firmware, and the firmware upgrade is included with the new displays. MOdel 2 or 3 XTS 3000...not the Astro Saber on your display idea.LuiePL wrote:If you have a model II or III the newer displays also require newer firmware, and the firmware upgrade is included with the new displays. Re: Rebanding...who and where?
Yeah, forgot to put that little tidbit in. Sorry!
Re: Rebanding...who and where?
The 800MHz. ASTRO Saber radios with 1-Meg. boards are indeed rebandable. Contact Motorola support and request a "Estimate of Upgrade Form" and all you'll need to do is fill out the form with as much of the information as you can possibly provide, fax it back to the number provided and they will issue you a price quote and a location to ship the radio to, usually Schaumburg, IL.
I recently sent in a few 800MHz. ASTRO Sabers III's myself and they cost me $75 each (Price based on our contract). They were returned with the following: Host=R07.71.00, DSP=R08.03.03, which by the way is the latest firmware and from what I found out, will most likely be the final firmware release.
Hope this information was helpful and good luck...

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
Thanks, I forogt about the existance of 1MB Astro Sabers. All the previous AS I've owned are 512K ones.
Sorry for the confusion

Re: Rebanding...who and where?
I have an 800 AS3 with 7.25 that is rebanded...I have a feeling that 7.7 addressed some issues that may have been found with 7.25..but I haven't noticed any on my end.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system
