Help with VRS unit

Post by matt_tjaden »

Hi Everyone,
I gave in to buying a P2017 VRS unit off ebay. I tryed programming the unit but it will not send out audio or take in audio. I have it pluged into my VHF W7, the unit is a UHF. The VRS is talking to the radio. I tested this by unpluging the VRS and got an error code on the display. Any ideas anyone?

Umm

the VRS-EP (presumably) is rock-bound. If you got it from the seller frequently offering several at a time, your may be set to 464.525.

PL is programmable via RSS. Frequency is not programmable at all.

Yeah, it's on the astro25 CPS, and probably astro spectra as well, but the thing is that 'VRS' is really general, because there's the VRS-EP (older) and the newer, frequency programmable VRS750 which has an HT750 inside. Power output is also selectable on that 750. Older astro mobile RSS (like 9.05) which predates the VRS750 doesn't have any options for frequency programming in it, since the VRS-EP was all that was available.

in order to find out what frequency you really have, some dismantling of the VRS is in order, unless you have a frequency counter handy.

Thanks Josh,
I will have to put it on the bench this weekend. Dose anyone have any idea how to change the freq? I guess if it's crystal controlled I'll have to find a suplyer.

Yeah, I meant to say 465.525, which is a weird frequency to have.

You can change frequencies by putting different crystals in it, and then getting an alignment.

A co-worker look at my VRS and thinks says it's an EXPO radio. I found ICM dose make crystals for EXPO radio on UHF. Has anyone re crystaled one of these before. How much tuning is involved if any?
