spectra repair
Hello,
I have a Spectra 800 MHz unit and the volume is gone. I was told some part attached to the circut board had dried out.
The unit does have the system 9000 siren unit attached. I am looking for someone who can repair this unit for a reasonable price. I have a few radio repair shops around my area and they all want two arms and a leg.
Being a volunteer and having to pay for my own equipment and up keep, I am on a limited budget.
Any help and information is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Sincerely,
Andy

Re: spectra repair
Andy, It could be one of several things, bad caps, dammage by bad caps, or a bad audio IC. Still the repair(s) should not cost "two arms and a leg."
I repair and refurbish Spectras, send me a PM.

Re: spectra repair
Just out of curiosity Will, on average how much time does it take you to recap a Spectra (just the time spent on the radio, not turnaround time)?
Re: spectra repair
Hi Will,
I sent a pm but I don't know if my account is working properly.
I was wondering if you could send me your contact info and a approx price for the repair.
I am in no rush to get the unit back so I can wait on a turn around time.
Thanks Andy

Re: spectra repair
I have been realy busy with the HamCon West and the ARRL Ham Radio Expo at the Los Angeles County Fair.
Jack, accual time spent on the Spectra repairs is three hours. This does not include the drying time or the 'soaking' time.

Re: spectra repair
Will did you mean HamCon? If so I had no idea you were there. I dropped in on Saturday after fixing some stuff up in PV for a little while. I should have taken some pictures of the LACO Disaster Comms vehicle. Red lights on a vehicle with civilian plates?

Re: spectra repair
Yes, I was there friday and then saturday till about 2pm.
And yes, the civ vehicle with red lights is Sgt. Jablonski's, head of the Disaster Communications Service. He IS a swarn officer with LASD (Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department).
Sorry if I missed any BatBoard members that were at the convention.

Thanks Will, that's about as long as it takes me too, just wanted to get a second opinion. Will wrote: Jack, accual time spent on the Spectra repairs is three hours. This does not include the drying time or the 'soaking' time.
Anyway, that explains why commercial shops want "two arms and a leg" to do them, the parts aren't that much, but at shop rates the labor can be quite a bit.
Spectra repair
Hello all,
I know Will is the man to fix a spectra.
Will if you read this I am having trouble with my email. I posted a while ago. My current email on batlabs isn'tworking anymore.
Could you please send a mail to Dbernstien @aol.com
I would like to know how much you would need to fix my spectra, and can you also program these radios?
I have the volume problem.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dave

Locked until "moustache" can decide if he's Dave or Andy and responds to his PMs.
Dave/Andy/whomever you are, you need to contact akardam via PM immediately.
