Hello everyone. I just got a Astro Saber 2R, Model # H04KDF9PW7AN, with a flashcode of 000001-002000-5. If I read the model decoder correctly, this radio was built in '99, so it should have the 1 meg board. The flashcode options are:
H35/G48 Conventional Operation
G114/H14 Astro Ready
Before I have it programmed (fire dept vhf mutual aid use), I want to have the firmware updated and several flash options added:
G806/Q806 Astro Digital Operation
G114/H14 Enhanced Digital ID Display
G351/Q351 MODAT
First, are these upgrades/updates still available even if Motorola no longer supports this product line? And second, if available, what kind of cost's would I be looking at? Thanks in advance, Frank

- What radios do you own?: XTS2500/5000, XPR7550/5550

You may be able to find a dealer who still has the programming stuff around. I'm not sure if the depot will do it. (It's possible, though, I've never tried.)FiremanSparky wrote:First, are these upgrades/updates still available even if Motorola no longer supports this product line? However, they don't seem to want to sell anyone MODAT unless you're the LAPD. Newer ASTRO gear apparently doesn't even support it. (The famous 'Nick whores' have MODAT, though.)
Re: Astro Saber 2R
Astro Sabers should still be upgradable.
IMBE will run you about $550-$600, ID display $75, MODAT dunno - I don't think they support MODAT any longer. Besides... why?

Re: Astro Saber 2R
Thanks for the replies. I was mis-informed about what to ask for when I have this radio updated. Just to cover myself, are there any other features I should think about in addition to G806/Q806 and G114/H14? This radio will be used on conventional analog and digital channels only. Again, thanks, Frank
